South Park Block Five is a new city park in downtown Portland, Oregon. What was a surface parking lot will be a beautiful public gathering space, on the historic Park Blocks, one block from Pioneer Courthouse Square, on a light rail line, and above a six-story below ground parking structure. Staff from Solarc's Portland Office designed the mechanical and plumbing systems for the park, including the systems for a 1000 SF cafe. Heat pumps used for cafe space and hot water heating are located in the garage to recover heat generated by automobiles. Cooling for the patio area outside the cafe is provided by a high pressure water misting system. Solarc designed these mechanical and plumbing systems for Portland Parks and Recreation as a sub consultant to Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects (ZGF), and worked in close collaboration with Olin Partnership and KPFF Civil Engineering. |
