This project is one of the largest private speculative developments in the US incorporating significant sustainability design features. SOLARC's Mike Hatten provided sustainability design consulting services -including energy modeling and development of energy efficiency strategies- to the design team led by the developer, Gerding Edlen Development Company. The Brewery Blocks, located at the former site of the Blitz-Weinhard Brewery, is a five-block project in the NW section of Portland's vibrant post-industrial neighborhood known as the Pearl District. The Brewery Blocks will provide a transition between the Central Business District and the River District by introducing approximately 1.7 million sq. ft. of urban retail, office space, and residential housing, as well as parking. With the combination of historic preservation of the Weinhard Brewhouse and the Armory Building, and an increase in retail and commercial activity, this area is being transformed into a bustling urban neighborhood. It provides a design that is faithful to the industrial character of the former brewery and the Pearl District while being consistent with "environmentally friendly" sustainable development concepts. |
