Co-Motion Cycles was designed as an energy efficient building. We integrated natural ventilation, daylighting, night-flush summer cooling and solar winter heating features into the building design. These features include operable windows and vents. The operable windows are used in place of a costly and noisy mechanical system. During the warm summer months, vents are used for night-flush "cooling." At night the vents open at night to flush warm air out of the building and cool the interior. Sunshades grace the front of the building. These shades let in natural light, yet keep out direct sun and radiation. Fluorescent lights are controlled by continuously dimming ballasts; on bright, sunny days, the lights dim automatically, while on cloudy or overcast days, the lights brighten in response to the lower levels of natural light.
