FOOD for Lane County highlights our ability to successfully manage a publicly funded project, respond to numerous special interest groups, and implement highly effective energy efficient features. This food bank helps alleviate hunger by soliciting, collecting, growing, preparing and packaging food for distribution. The building incorporates 30,000 SF of warehouse / storage space, 8,000 SF of office space, and a full commercial kitchen.

SOLARC Principals Galen Ohmart and Mike Hatten collaborated with GZ Brown of the University of Oregon Energy Lab to maximize the energy efficiency. Artificial lighting is minimized through the use of continuously dimming ballasts that adjust artificial lighting levels in response to the natural light introduced through properly placed and sized glazing. Fully automated night flush cooling combined with user interface cooling eliminated the need for air conditioning in all areas except the commercial kitchen.
